I had a £6-00 bottle of wine among my shopping on Friday. Thought the final amount of £60 quid seemed a little high so when I reached my car I studied the till receipt and noticed it had been scanned twice! I went back to check out op who apologized and sent me to Cust Svs. After a wait I reached the staff member and said "don't know how I can prove this but I have been charged twice for a bottle of wine" She also apologized and refunded me £12.00. I felt guilty even though it was genuine. My question is this: what is to stop people pretending they have been charged twice for an item and hiding it in their car before going back to Customer Svs and getting double the difference??

I would say experience and the degree of embarassment/brazeness shown by the person saying it. They do seem to know though!0

A similar thing happened to me on Sunday with cooked ham reduced on the cooked meat department. I didn't realise until I got home that the item had been scanned twice. I immediately phoned the store. They were fine about it and said they would log it and the next time I was in the store they would refund.
Today, I went back to the store. I had my receipt and took the packaging back as proof (it was a weighed item). I was given a refund of the overcharged amount but not DtD. I didn't query it as I also thought that I couldn't really prove I had only bought one of the item (although the chances of having 2 reduced, weighed items being the same price were slim).
Does anyone know if the DtD applies to scanning twice, or is it just when the price of an item is displayed incorrectly?
Thanks

I am not sure but my local tesco do not seem too keen to give DTD if they dont have to. I was overcharged on an item and they didnt give DTD. I asked for DTD and the customer services lady was v grumpy but finally did give me DTD.
I was overcharged again not long ago and they didnt give me DTD but I didn't think to mention it that time.
You only seem to get DTD if you point out to them that they should be giving it0 -
Ah well in my case I really wasn't expecting it - I was only concerned about not paying for something twice, but did receive DTD! If I had a fiver on me I'd have shoved it in the charity box
