Help needed re Debt Collection Agency

This is my first posting on a Forum and I need some help please. I have just received a letter on the 5th August 2009 from Asset Recoveries UK Ltd acting on behalf of Fairmile Recoveries LLP about a debt sold to them by Northern Rock.

They are demanding payment of a loan that was with Northern Rock linked to a mortagage taken out in 1997. To cut a long story short I filed for bankruptcy in July 2000 and Northern Rock got there property back in 2002 (within the bankruptcy period). It is now 9 years later and they want payment of £100 (excluding interest), surely the fact that I went through a bankrupty and lost my home would have wiped out this debt.

I have not as yet responded to this company and would like to know if they can legally still recover this money. Can anyone give me advice on this please?

Many thanks & regards

No they cannot demand the money, either ring them or post them details of the bankruptcy

Hi and welcome Vixen. As debtinfo says - they cannot demand the money. I recently received a demand from Monument but the next day received a letter to say the original letter was sent in error and would I please accept their apologies for sending it.

I have a lot of experience with this company !

They buy up debts that no one should be chasing. Doesn't have St.... Sha...'. name on the bottom does it ? I remember telling her that "she was not a fit and proper person to hold or operate under a credit licence !"

You are not liable for this debt (whether you put the debt on your BR forms or not) Write to them ( not worth speaking to) and give them your BR number, then report them to The OR and OFT if they contact you.

I thought so too! Maybe I'll put them back on my Christmas card list - then again maybe not!

  • Hi DD

Yes the name you mentioned is at the bottom of the correspondence, I will follow your advice and also get in touch with the OR and the National Debt help line. Will this company put a black mark against my credit report, as it has taken 9 years to get a credit card?

    Thanks for the advice

No they won't be able to put a black mark against your credit rating.
