I think part of your prob may be that you have inluded all your student income in the inc/exp but you are not actually going to have that money in reality.
Other thing making it hard as you know is that your money comes in /goes out at all different times.
Impressed that you have no credit cards ect.

If truth be told, it's my husband that's saved us from credit cards etc as I'm inclined to be a bit impulsive whereas he's the save until you can pay for it type!
Re the problem - you've hit the nail on the head - while typing it all out yesterday I realised why I hate trying to get our finances sorted - it's a logistical nightmare! I've decided to try and use my student money for the holiday and thus keep it seperate from general spending altogether - I think it'll be easier to organise and budget that way. And, we'll never, ever sign up for a holiday without being sure we can pay for it again - the fear has taught us a big lesson.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm guessing there isn't anything majorly wrong with our general spending (as I'm sure it would have been pointed out on here) so it's just a case of trying to get on top of the varying ins and outs.
