OP - where on earth do you live that houses can be bought for £84k or £130k ?
Everything round here is £450k+ and a parking space sold for £170k a couple years ago.0 -
Presumably you live in Bristol, Bristol Pilot? Rightmove lists 347 houses (filtered) for upto £425k in Bristol. Only two are admitting on the filter to being sared ownership. I tried a filter for £100k and was amazed when it said there were 8 house but looking at them most were fixed mobile homes/ whatever they are called.

I can understand your frustration, OP, but you are surely going to benefit from price falls in the lpng run. If all prices fall x %, then it benefits those who are trading up. Whilst it may be a while before FTBs can afford your house, when you do come to move you will get more for your money.
Around here you don't see terraces that open onto the street for under £140k. I agree it seems unfair that people in fairly decent jobs cannot get the sort of house that would have been easily available to them 20 years ago, but unfortunately that has been the price of lax lending and government negligence.
I feel more sorry that there are going to many low paid workers who will never be able to afford the flat or terrace they would have been able to buy before the market went crazy.0 -

Can I just add that there used to be a thing called a property ladder , you know you get on at the lowest rung.
That rung could be a flat , you know where you have one bedroom or less , that did until you were in the need and ability to pay for another rung up ad infinitum until you start to come down said ladder.Wasnt but 3 generations ago we were in room and kitchen houses with 7 living there.
But perhaps folk are doing it all wrong , no saving for deposits , all credit , theres no planning just doing...its the macdonalds drive through life.
It used to be we bought what we could afford , maybe got the never never on a need. Now its two cars on credit , two plus mortgages on more than 2x multiples , two families and more than two kids in each ....I blame the number two , its a conspiracy I tell you.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -
