London High Court

Hi,

Does anyone have experience of filing for BR at the London High Court? As it's a walk in rather than make an appointment, I was wondering if you usually end up having to come back on another day to see the judge after you've filed your paperwork?

If you do need to come back can you rearrange the date if you can't do the date given? Likewise can you do this with the OR interview? My work situation doesn't allow alot of flexibility for time off :(

Thanks!!

There are a few accounts of the process at RCJ on the board.

I went bankrupt at the high court in 2005, so things may have changed since then.
I got there gave in my petetion a lady checked it through, then told me to go downstairs to pay the fees, went back upstairs lady saw the reciept then told me to go and have lunch and go back at 2pm.
Had lunch and went back at 2, had to sit in a room with other people then another lady came in called my name and gave me my bankriptcy order stamped by the judge, you don't ususally see the judge. Then the lady told me i have to go to the OR office about 20 min walk from the high court. I went saw the OR, she said everything was fine and I never heard from her since.

Hi we went BR in the high court in London. It's all done on one day, you go in and pay your fees at 10am, then you go to a "post office like counter" where they go through with you and make sure it's filled correctly and you swear the affidavit.

Then they ask you to come back at 2.30, there will be a room full of other BR's. You all wait for 20 mins then they come in with the papers, hand them out and thats it!

We went back home after we swore the papers in to court as we were finished by 11 and didn't want to hand about for 3.5 hours.

Of course the OR will then call you another day.
Look down your nose at me and I thumb my nose back at you. :p

Ouff - re-reading that it felt like a life-time ago, can't believe it was just two years!
I think now you don't go straight to the OR's office, but straight home from court and the OR will be in contact to either arrange a telephone or in person interview or say they don't need to give you an interview, although I'm not 100% sure of that, so perhaps someone who went BR after me there will know and post?

I'm a teacher, so no flexibility at all outside of the school hols, and told the OR this - I got my interview after school hours one day on the phone, was allowed to arrange it at that time.

It was rather painless all in all (despite the OR-assistant from hell - a distant memory now), just frustrating to think I will be treated like a criminal for the rest of my life, as will my partner because of this (eg with content insurance etc). But better than things were feeling sick every time the phone rang/post came etc etc....

    Good luck :)

I too went BR at the RCJ. I got there quite early and it was all done in one day. Plan to spend the whole day so either plan a few things to do for a couple of hours or take a good book. After you pay your fees (and don't forget to do this as it is fairly near the front door and the BR office is miles away!) and file your papers you come back for 2:00 (or 3:00 can't remember!) so you will have a few hours time to fill.

    :j :j

I went BR 2 weeks ago at the high court........in and out very quickly..

Pay, file your paper work, wait till 2.30 for your papers...........and home...

Very quick process due to the high number filing in London..
