Gordon Brown is an economic genius. Discuss.

Think I am wrong? Think again. He has almost single handedly stopped the world from entering a depression because of what he achieved at the G8 summit in March. In fact, it actually now feels like we are actually in a very mild recession. When he said he had ended boom to bust economics, it would appear he was actually right. Think about it, we all thought at the end of last year the economy had bust, 6 months later it is almost odds on house prices will be back to 2007 prices by Christmas. Pretty much all of us still have a job, we can almost borrow as much as we want and we are beginning to spend spend spend. Even the stock market is growing at one of the fastest rates of all time, which can only mean huge bonuses.
NEXT YEAR YOU MUST VOTE THIS ECONOMIC GENIUS BACK IN!
Now, I am being a touch sarcastic. However 3 months ago I would have been plain barking. However, when I hear and read what the media are saying and when I come to a site like this and read what the bulls, which are the majority now, are saying this is almost how it seems.

Its hard to call this one either way yet. Its simple really - if we exit recession sooner than our competitors, if we turn out to have had lower unemployment, if we start to pick up as other stay down, then yes, the policies worked.
I've said for a long time that the opportunity for Britain is to exit recession in a stronger relative position vs our competitors - a shorter shallower recession here than elsewhere makes us stronger. And the signs look good - we have manufacturing output and confidence rising faster and higher than the EU, we have lower unemployment, and previously "ludicrous" forecasts like us being out of recession this year are quite likely.
Some people won't recognise any positive signs because the deeper the recession the more it fits with their theology that Brown is the AntiChrist. Don't start threads like "is he a genius" - they'll flay you alive!0 -
You're right, things are unbelievably good right now, considering the circumstances. But I think most people with a brain understand things aren't quite how they seem, and all the problems have just been brushed under the carpet until the election is held.0

I am not so sure because that would mean the Bulls would be flaying there own leader. After all, Gordon and the bulls want the same things.0 -

This is why we must vote him back in.0 -

and learns how to spell questions  he'll get my vote (maybe). After years of disappointment with get-rich-quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme...and quick! - Homer Simpson0 -
Good God.
What is this, a labour party love in?
When I stop laughing, I think I'm going to puke.
And then start crying.
And all the while my taxes are being p1ssed down the drain and into the pockets of these thieves and liars who are running our country.
It doesn't matter who is in government, while we have a debt-based money system we will be slaves to the banks and their magic money making machine.
Small government and sound money is the only way out of this mess and is the key to a sustainable economy."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

Do you really think he is going to tackle this before the election.0 -

You don't understand. I do not believe this is the main stream view anymore. The media headlines tell us "lets party like it 2007", the detail is irrelevant to the masses.0 -

I don't think he is going to tackle any contentious issues before the election and I very much doubt it will be his job to tackle any issues after the election. After years of disappointment with get-rich-quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme...and quick! - Homer Simpson0 -
You keep saying this, but... errrm isn't the EU around half of our export market?Rochdale_Pioneers wrote: »And the signs look good - we have manufacturing output and confidence rising faster and higher than the EU
Looks like a 'consolidation loan recovery' to me - a direct cash injection/invention is always going to benefit a net importer more than a net exporter
until the injection stops...0
