Oh I remember that from my teenage years, how different it was when we had long power cuts! One time, me and my brother and sister walked down to the Mersey to look at the river lights (which were still on) it was lovely.

We must be of a similar age KC, I remember winter would = power cuts and doing homework by candlelight :rotfl:

(It was difficult, and I always burnt myself playing with the candle :o and I was terrified of going to the cold bathroom in the dark because of the daddy long legs :rotfl:)

I remember having my birthday party by candlelight due to the power cuts - made it more
exciting. I don't mind them gives me an excuse to light the coal fire

It was quite fun in some ways, wasn't it! Mind you, thats cos it didn't last long! My mum didn't have electricity until she was 7 years old, they moved into a council house, and she remembers going to bed with a candle before then - she used to perch it by the pillow! How the house didn't burn down, I have no idea..........

people were so much closer years ago as they didn't have the distraction of tv/internet etc and people could manage to entertain themselves.
