bank repayments help please?

Options
A letter just came through the door there, from the bank of scotland.

I had a student overdraft with them, but as i have been in and out of courses for the past 5 years, it is no longer a student account. And i was told i have until Feb before i had to start paying it back.

I wrote to them last week asking for them to let me know the amount owing on the account, and they sent me a letter back stating...

"we have recently reviewed your account and have noticed you have not paid anything into it during the last month.

Under the conditions of your account, you must pay in your salary or other regular payment into your account each month

You must now make a payment into your account within 14 days"

Now i haven't paid anything into this account for over a year. I don't have a card for this account or anything.

I don't know what to do, as i cannot afford to make any payments to it till September, when i get my student loan.

Move your salary in and then out again a few days later? It is in the terms and conditions of all student accounts that it must be your main or only current account, and that overdrafts are payable on demand if you do not adhere to the terms and conditions.

Read the terms and conditions of whatever type of account it is now. Most current accounts have a minimum limit that you must pay in every month.

I don't even know what type of account it is now, as i don't get statements for it, and had the card for it took off me. This is the first contact i've had from them in almost a year

I'd write to them and explain your financial situation and offer to make a set repayment each month, say £10. There is a letter on national debtline website that offers this and ask them to freeze interest & charges at the sametime.

Good (well not the being on hold bit). If they agree to a repayment plan you still need to write a letter to confirm what was in the conversation (just so they can't change their minds).

  • ok just off the phone....man trying to threaten me and stuff...but meh whatever.

So i explained that i cannot make payments on the account until september when i start uni and get my student loan, and will only be able to pay £10 a month to the account. He said that was fine...then started all this crap about how he needed a payment today otherwise it will be passed to a DCA...i told him that was fine and wasn't worried about having to deal with a DCA as they would be told the same thing, i am a full time student and can only afford to pay £10 month and he started all this stuff again about how it will affect my credit rating...told him my credit rating was shot to hell anyway...and thanks for the advice and told him goodbye and hung up.

Honestly do these people get paid to be rude?
