Just for the record It is unlikely HSBC will be re credit scoring you, they rely on their own "behaviour scoring" rather than a fresh credit serarch every time.

If I was the OP I would use the Cap One card as they intended to, ie pay it off every month in full. And soldie on with getting the Voluntary Payments in order - particularly the one who flatly refused to lower the interest rate.

But then again, you probably were doing that anyway!

    Thanks to everyone who replied.

I have now received the Cap One application form and sent it off etc, just waiting for the card to arrive (and to find out how many £millions I need to send as a deposit!).

I'm also going to ask HSBC about the possibility of a solo card, rather than upgrading to a current account with switch, so fingers crossed.

Also, just sent away for my Experian credit file to see just how much my creditors really do hate me! ;D
  • OP have you tried the Halifax? I think they pretty c..p on the whole but am still with them as no one else wants me (I'm a catagory C customer!) but they do give an Visa Electron Debit card with their basic current account and after 6 months will also issue a cheque book, which does save the having to ask friends/family bit (been there and done it!) also, if you order on-line or over the phone and say its a Visa Electron card many companys won't take it but, if you only mention the Visa bit they will! obviously this only works if you have sufficent money in your account to cover the purchase!
Make the most of life, it is not a rehearsal!
