DMP and Bank Charges

Options
Hi,

after £200 of bank charges this month and missed payments etc over the last few months on £19,000 with £600+ payment worth of debt, my wife and I have finally decided to sort this.

We have rung the National Debt Relief and after giving our SOA etc she said an IVA is prob not on the cards but a DMP is.

Anyways, I have had soooo many bank charges in the past 6 years, let alon £200 in the past 2 months.

Should I claim them back? Can I now I am going on DMP? Not really sure if it's worth it.

Thanks, Dan

    Hiya

Sorry I'm not really too clued up on these areas but thought I'd bump the post up to the top as you'd had no replies, incase people missed it.

Might be worth ringing back the National Debt Relief of your CAB to see if they can give you any advice?

Any claim for bank charges is 'fasttracked' if you are in financial hardship - I don't know the exact rules but I would have thought going onto a Debt Management Plan would count. Definitely start the process of claiming back charges, what have you got to lose?

Would the financial man (can't remember his official title!) who is charge of my DMP want to know of an eventual payout. There hasn't been anything said I have to declare any future income but it would be wise to up my payments if I can afford more.

What I'm say is say I get 2k, would he just take it off me? Regardless it would go to debt anyways so it's a win win.

Going onto the DMP and my payments should be going fown from £600 p/m to about £250(ish)

Any payout would not be income but a refund. I am pretty sure others on here have used the money to make full and final settlements offers to creditors.

Of course you should claim them back. You may have to wait as fast tracking for hardship cases takes some time.
Why not post your SOS on here, you will get a lot of advise and you can choose what you want to do.

Hi, I've been on a DMP and I claimed them back without any problems. It shouldnt matter if you are on a DMP. Admittedly I was a bit concerned that some of the creditors would stop freezing the interest but they didnt. Go for it I say.

Are National Debt Relief a fee charging company?
