Do I have to prove that I've taken professional advice...

when I go to court? Or will they just ask and then that'll be it? I'm going BR regardless of what advice they give me, as I know it's in my best interests and it's my only option. I just feel that taking advice and having to explain my entire situation in detail would be a waste of my time and theirs.

Just wondering. Thanks.

You don't have to prove it, but it's a really good idea to have a talk with one of the free advisers - just to make sure you're fully aware of all the consequences, etc.

I agree with Merry, please take professional advice. There may be something that you haven't thought to ask on here that may affect you in the future. Think about it, you are in a pickle at the moment so it would be in your best interests to get the advice you need to go forward. You are starting a new life, so start as you mean to go on and research everything before taking steps and take that philosophy forward into your life after BR and discharge. Learn from your mistakes.

As the judge could ask you if you have taken professional advice, do you really want to lie to a judge?
  • hi just to add when you speak to the cccs on the phone, they will give you a reference number, then if asked by the judge you can quote that number, this is proof that you have taken advice also. penny
  • Nobody asked me for proof when I went BR, I didn't even have to see the judge. I had taken advice so if I had been asked then there would have been no problem. As everyone else is saying, I think you should seek advice from one of the charities even if it is to confirm your thoughts that BR is your best (and only) option.
