Traditional glass goldfish bowl

My dad accidentally smashed my lovely goldfish bowl yesterday, good news is I rescued Nemo, our goldfish but he is now homeless (well, currently squatting in my washing up bowl!)

Now I need a new one urgently, I really want another traditional glass bowl, like this..

But I don't trust it to come in the post, I will try my local pet store on the market and other local pet stores on Friday but I had trouble getting this one in the first place 18 months ago.

Does anyone know where I can get one? My sister said they had one in Habitat for £15 but theres no sign of it on the web site.

Thanks,

Sarah

I have a 60lt Biorb fish tank. You can also get a 30lt and 15lt biorb as well though. They are made from perspex rather than glass but you can't tell and it makes them much easier to transport. They are very very popular among newbies to the fish keeping world. I also got my girlfriend the 35lt biube for Christmas as it's easier to position in a smaller room.

I'm not sure how big your old bowl was? Probably very small if you only had the one goldfish in it. Maybe 10-15lts? The 15lt baby biorb might be perfect for you. You might find one on ebay as they retail for £50 with the light included.

I'd be warned though. The biorb has such a large following that it also has loads of accessories. Meaning you're likely to want to upgrade eventually meaning Nemo might not be suitable. The biorbs are a great way to get involved in keeping tropical fish. You'll get a 30lt biorb off ebay for about £40.

Or just do a search of google or ebay for biorb (for traditional shaped bowls) or biube (for the cylindrical shaped tank)

From a fishy point of view, (I have kept fish for the past six years, both trops and cold), could I suggest for the sake of the fish that now is an ideal time to upgrade to an all singing and dancing tank. A tank also allows the space for a filter to take toxins from the water, and an air pump to give extra oxygen. A bowl, especially when filled to the top, allows for very little oxygenation of the water. As a guide, each 2.5cm (1 inch) of fish length (excluding tail fins) should be allowed 150cm 2 (24 square inches) of water surface. Therefore, a 60 x 30 x 30cm aquarium will hold 30cm of fish.

    Many thanks all..

Carl east - thanks, those tanks look fantastic, not sure I want to fork out quite that much for one little goldfish but maybe I'll consider getting some more little fishies he can play with then it is more worthwhile.

Surfsister - cool, will check it out, always wondered what freecyle was!

Loiuse - 1981 - thanks, my last bowl was quite large, 22L and I never filled it right the way up to maximise the surface area, only got one small goldfish in so I think he was okay! Will consider other shaped tanks though this time.

    Thanks again!

Syphon pumps are the only way to go! I really recommend getting one with a pumping action rather than just a tube that you suck.... you really dont want a mouth full of fish tank water. My local aquatic store sell water thats more suitable for fish than tap water and its like £2 for a barrel refill (the plastic barells are like £3 to buy or something!) I always have one empty barell, for putting old water into... which i then water the garden with =) As for re-filling, since with syphoning the source needs to be higher than the destination (right o.0) I just pop the new barell on top of the tank =)

Here's a syphon on ebay for £1.99 buy it now including postage! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HAND-SYPHON-PUMP-wine-making_W0QQitemZ4455740091QQcategoryZ38172QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
it says for wine making but oh well!

Though, if you have a gravel tank (personally i have sand), you can get the ones that clean the gravel like so... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AQUARIUM-FISH-TANK-BACK-SYPHON-KIT-GRAVEL-CLEANER_W0QQitemZ7757849341QQcategoryZ20756QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
