I've got another stupid question, sorry.
I'm looking through the slow cooker recipes and one said an ice cube of red wine. Does that mean you can freeze wine in ice cubes? That'd be really handy, cos then I can get some of the tiny one glass bottles of wine and not have it go off, I'm not much of a wine drinker to get rid of it that way!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Yes, wine can be frozen in ice cube trays.0

Another stupid question, if I get chicken legs how can I season them? Do I just pour loads of dried herbs/spices on and stick it in a roasting tin? I'm assuming I can't do it in the slow cooker without some kind of liquid?
Also, if I'm doing something with tinned tomatoes in the slow cooker, how long will the rest of the tin last? Could I freeze it? As my sc would only take about half a tin. Or would it be cheaper to use fresh toms?
I'm getting really excited now about doing some nice food myself! And all with a mini cooker, grill machine and slow cooker, who'd have thought it?! (obviously people on here would).Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
With the chicken legs, pour a little bit of oil over them and rub it all over, then sprinkle on your herbs/salt/pepper.
I've never done them in the slow cooker on their own, so I can't answer your other question about them.
The tinned toms that are left over will be ok to freeze. When I make pizzas, I only use half the tomato topping at one time, so freeze the rest.
It's so much nicer to have home made food! My son said to me the other day that I've spoilt him with good food. He said that on the odd occasion that he has a pasta sauce from a jar, or tinned macaroni cheese, it tastes bland and horrible!0 -
Eat canned and tinned food, it is ridiculously cheap!
Especially fruit and veg.0 -
I need to start looking more at tins. I had a look at some mixed veg but it was all turnip and swede, which I don't really like. But tins of singe veg should be cheaper. At the moment though I'm taking advantage of cheap in season veg, since it's stuff I like.
I wish my mum had home cooked stuff, but she didn't often do it. And she wouldn't teach me or sister how to cook, she said we'd burn the house down! Which is why I'm so useless and only just learning how to cook at 28.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
tinned is cheap, i get peaches, pineapple and mangoes all tinned for like 20p each! I know some people dont like aldi but the fruit and veg is better than marks and tesco!0

I eat tinned fruit but I much prefer frozen veg to tinned if I am not eating fresh. I found the mixed tinned veg to be absolutely vile and the individual veg ok but not great I think what I am trying to say is don't buy a lot of something until you know that you like it and are going to eat it.0

I always have tinned tomatoes, kidney beans and baked beans in my cupboard. I also have various other types of tinned beans plus tinned potatoes, sweetcorn and carrots for emergencies. I also occasionally have tinned pineapple or fruit cocktail, but they tend to sit unused for months!0

I eat tinned because im a student, i live off 2000 a year. That includes bills, food etc. I have started an ebay shop and now im living more comfortably. I think frozen chicken is a bargain, go to a slaughterhouse and buy in bulok. There is one near me, it is fresh chicken, and cheap!0
