Hi there. Long time reader of this forum but first time poster.
I wonder if someone can help me with a problem i had in Next recently. I went to the sale and bought a few items, unfortunately getting to the till and I noticed i didn't have my Next card. I explained to the cashier who said i could pay on my debit card and bring the receipt in on my next visit and they will transfer the balance to my Next card. No problemo or so I thought.
However, i went to my local store with my receipt in my hot little hand thinking it was all very straightforward, unfortunately, the very abrupt sales assistant told me i was advised incorrectly and it was hard luck. She called over the supervisor who said the only way they could do the transaction would be if i returned all the items i had purchased so they could check them off and then i could re buy them on my Next card. They made it quite clear it would be a major inconvenience if i was to do that. I left feeling like i was trying to cheat them somehow.
Now i know the interest rate on the Next card is terrible and my balance is usually clear. However, when the sale comes about i usually stock up on presents etc and pay it all off over a couple of months so don't get hit too much with the interest.
I cannot believe i am the only person that has forgotten their card on the day and though it is ultimately my fault, i feel a little let down by Next in this current climate where the shopper is king.

I would have returned the items. But then i don't spend much time worrying what someone i will probably never see again thinks of me, especially when their tills allow such a thing.0

Sorry if this seems blunt but could you afford the items? If so, don't worry. If not, why were you wanting to buying them on a store card? I don't get it.
Cut up your store card. They are for mugs and will cost you more in the long run. Don't buy stuff on credit.

How helpful. She clearly stated why she wanted to put them on her store cardNow i know the interest rate on the Next card is terrible and my balance is usually clear. OP I would try again, maybe at a different branch? Or see if you can speak to the person who originally served you as they were the one who told you that you could do this. If you can't remember what they looked like, the store manager will be able to find out who it was as that's persons till operator number will be on your receipt. Good luck0 -

Next manager here
We simply cannot do that. In store we've got no access to your account. Even if we ring the directory they won't tell us anything about your account aside your address.
I think there's been a simple breakdown in communication here. What I'd do for simple reasons is
Mark all the items on your receipt that you want to return, if its everything then don't mark it but make sure you've got the items with you.
The assistant can quickly type the item codes from the receipt, mark return and then type them back in again for a resale
However rude the last assistant/supervisor were, its the only way to do it0 -
Thank you for your responses. I think i was more !!!!ed off with the second assistants attitude more than anything. I also work in retail and am very polite to other retail employees regardless of how great they are. Anyhoo...i will put this down to experience and move on.0

My post specifically said that I did not mean to cause offence. The 'for mugs' phrase was perhaps a little colloquial but your post was, shall we say, vulgar. Your reference to my diet was particularly rude. I only hope you are not so misanthropic in real life.
I would advise you to read the Forum Rules which you perhaps forgot to do before you joined last month, particularly this bit:

it just really anoys me when people like you put newbies off posting due to your holier than thou attitude.
As for being "misanthropic", I think you should look up the meaning of the word as I was obviously showing support towards others not dislike or distrust, I was howerver showing contempt towards a tyrant, who clearly has a superiority complex. I urge you to also read and understand the forum rules as your earlier post was hardly "friendly"
and stating that "you don't mean to offend" doesn't cut it with me I'm afriad, why else would you make a comment such as you did in the first place if your objective was not to offend?
Some newbies may be scared to stand up for themselves I however am not.
Tyrant? Superiority complex? :rotfl:
I think you need to have a good look at what you have posted in this thread and ask yourself what on earth you are on about.
Oh and I'm quite sure you're 'not afraid to stand up for yourself' - your posts and your language conjure up an image of the type of harridan I see all too often 'standing up for themselves' loudly in the street, in shops, on Jeremy Kyle etc etc. I am thankful that I do not know you personally.
Please do the OP and everyone else a favour and refrain from personal attacks and nastiness. Thanks.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Am a newbie here, and after reading some of the posts above a bit aprehensive to join in.
Hollyg, it doeasn't matter if you could/could not afford the items, frankly that's no body elses business. Here's what my thoughts are. Hope they may be of some use to you
maybe the SA was new (I know that isn't going to make you feel any better about it) if I was you I would return the stuff for a refund then buy it back on your account card, you could always go to another store if you don't want to see the people you dealt with before. I pretty much do the same as yourself, buy some stuff and pay for it over 2 - 3 months, this helps when you have growing kids to buy for constantly!! and your not paying too much interest then.
Hope you get something sorted out0
