Yes! I have done 2 batches now and they disappear really quickly.

This is the recipe I use.

    Crumpets

    450g plain flour
1 1/2 tsp salt (I know this seems quite alot but I tried it with less and found they weren't as nice...depends on taste!)
    1 tsp sugar
    2tsp fast action yeast
Half a pint of warm milk
Half a pint of warm water

    Method

Mix flour, salt, sugar and yeast
pour on water and milk and stir very well
Cover with a tea towel and leave in a warm place for about an hour until it has risen and holes appear. (I put mine on top of the dryer when I grudgingly have to use it!)
I don't bother with crumpet rings, just slowly put a ladle full onto my crepe pan and it seems to hold a decent shape. After they come away from the pan easily (2-3 mins) flip them until the other side is cooked.
Top with, butter, golden syrup, toffee sauce, dripping or jam and eat!

NB: Milk is fairly pricy so I cheat and make up half a pint of powdered milk to use and don't have any problems.

without the rings I think that they are piklets - a sort of yeast batter drop scone.

If you want them thick then you will need rings - but fried egg rings will do or you could improvise with smooth pastry cutters!

This was the answer I gave last time someone asked this question ;) I'll merge this thread with that one later to keep ideas together.

Can you make these in a normal frying pan or do you need a crepe pan? Is there a difference?

Also, could you freeze them and would you freeze the uncooked mixture or once they are cooked and then defrost and reheat when you wanted them?

    Thanks
