"First timer that isn't a driver", needs some help

Hi,
Going away for the first time by myself (well me and my girlfriend). We have put together £700-£800 and were hoping to go on one of those last minute package holidays.
Unfournately, we both don't drive and we both haven't been on holiday since we were about 12 and we going with our parent's and brothers and sisters etc.
So I was hoping for some recommendations, where we could go that we both wouldn't have to drive and also would get to see all the stuff that the place had to offer. Also somewhere easy for holiday newbies, (on my previous holidays my parents obviously took care of all the hard stuff).
Thanks for your help.

Plenty of the mainstream places in Europe will fit the bill.
Not being able to drive it's a problem. We went abroad every year to places like Romania, Russia and Yugoslavia for 10 years and neither of us could drive at that time.0 -
How did you get about ? Using Taxi's or Train/Bus ? If so how did you find out about them ? By asking at the hotel etc ?0

I think Malta has a pretty good public transport system; Sloppychops is the expert.0

Majorca is a good bet, public transport is easy and cheap to use. As for finding out about them, ask people!Lynzie Lou :dance:0

So you guys reckon Malta or Majorca ?0

how long are you wanting to go for? do you want a touristy beachy holiday or a more culture filled city break?0

Worth a look at Crete as well - the North coast (where most of the package resorts are) has a pretty good bus service. Plenty of different resorts, so worth reading a few reviews before you choose (same goes for anywhere really).
What sort of things ("all the stuff...") are you interested in by the way (just so's we don't send you somewhere just we find interesting...).0 -
Tenerife has a good bus service, so has mainland Spain.
Salou is good & you can get the bus or train to
Barcelona, Tarragona, Sitges.
If you just ask at the hotel receptions they'll normally have bus/train timetables & advise you on what there is to see & do.
When you find a place you like check it out on www.tripadvisor.co.uk0 -
Also, where ever you choose to go, have a walk into the town and check out the trips. You can visit lots of places on guided tours and often you'll learn much more about the area than if you do it alone. Also, everything is organised for you, and that might suit you better than tripping around independently on local buses if you aren't used to it. If you book trips in the hotel they can be quite expensive (depending on where you are) but you'll often find the same trips locally for a much cheaper price.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
