Loan settled on my credit file now getting chasing letters again

Last year i applied for my credit report - very in depth & very useful. There was a loan on there that was classed as "S" - settled or satisfied.
I then got my credit report again a couple of months ago and this loan was no longer on there.
However, this week i've received 2 letters from a company stating they are now dealing with all of this companies accounts and asking for payment - can this be right? Surely if its not on my file anymore then i don't owe them.
Also just to point out i moved house last month - the tenants that moved into the house i left have caused major problems with the address - the letters i have recieved have been redirected from my old address but the address on the letters isn't even my old adddress if that makes sense!!
What should i do?

Did you settle it?
If you didn't then it is possible it has been sold on to a debt collector.
Sometimes when that happens, the debt will be marked as settled with the original lender for a short time. Often to be replaced by an entry from the buyer later.
Just because something does not appear on your credit report does not mean you don't ow anything.
It would be best to demand a statement of account and a copy of the loan agreement.
