Can online shopping be delivered to student halls?

I have had a quick check on the Asda online shopping site, but I couldn't see an answer to my question....

This September I am joining 3 of last year's flatmates in a private apartment building/halls (More expensive than a house, but due to some previous problems, including cockroaches - in uni halls - we opted to treat ourselves to a bit of stress-free luxury!)

None of us has a car, and our local large supermarket (an Asda) is around a 20 minute walk away - understandably, no amount of good intentions is going to make us start our year carrying copious bottles of pop and large packs of toilet rolls this distance! A taxi would cost around £6 but this would mean all of us going shopping on the same trip, whereas we could more easily put an order together online (I am an English literature student, so have little mandatory hours IN uni and so could quite easily wait in for a delivery)

However, I wasn't sure whether Asda would deliver to a halls-type property... namely, one where they cannot knock on the door to alert us to their arrival! The collection of buildings require a security key to enter, so a delivery could make it to the reception at best. Asda don't seem to address such issues online, and I thoguht someone may have experienced this situation before.

Don't know about Asda but I know Sainsburys and Tesco used to deliver when my son was in uni halls. Can you not call up the Asda store local to the uni and ask them?

    Hi,

Yes, ASDA can deliver to Student halls, and when I worked in their Contact Centre we in fact had several customers who were resident in such halls.

One tip I would advise though, is when placing your order, make sure your address is exactly correct, and also put a delivery instruction on. Such as, please call my mobile number 07xxx xxxxxx etc just in case the driver is unable to locate the correct room/residence.

    Hope this helps :)

    Regards
  • That's great! :D I wasn't sure if they'd deliver if they can't actually reach my EXACT address, through security doors... but if they can phone on arrival or arrange specific delivery instructions there shouldn't be a problem - thank you very much!

works for pizza delivery and takeaways as well in most cases...especially when you've already paid upfront with your credit card.

Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:
