well its not a brick but it sunk in the middle like a badly cooked cake :rotfl::rotfl:
oh well will eat this one then try again :D
hope you had better luck cat;)
  • Does it really have to be spelt? I make bread for the ds's gf with Doves rice flour. that has no wheat or gluten in. It makes a lovely loaf in the breadmaker. She says it is the only nice gluten free bread she has ever eaten. hth

Sorry your loaf sunk witchwoopiggy

Luckily I had some sucess with mine- the top crust looked a bit crumbled but it rose and cooked fine.
    It tastes good to.
My receipe was the following and I cooked it in a panasonic bradmaker.

1 1/4 teasp fast acting yeast
500g spelt flour (I used doves)
    1 1/2 teasp salt
1 large tbsp runny /squeezy honey
    1 oz butter ( I used stork )
    300 ml water

I then cooked it on a Rapid bake Basic WHITE /BROWN bread setting for Large and medium crust, which on mine took 1 hr 55 mins.
I didnt choose the wholemeal setting as this was 3 hours and I read spelt doesnt need to be doughed /cooked for so long.
After it cooked I left it to cool for a good while.
As for the top crust looking messy it might have been because I didnt add milk powder .You can add 1 tablespoon of milk powder if you want.
Hope this works for you, I will post a piccy later.

Also some people said mixing half wholemeal and half white spelt together works well too and not as heavy.

  • I hand made some spelt bread and it worked beautifully but be careful, as it is a type of wheat and made me ill.

My favourite bread mix at the moment is Glebe Farm Gluten Free Seeded Brown Bread Mix, from the supermarket. It can be used in a bread machine
