Cold Called To Reclaim PPI
A friend of mine is a little worried about a call he had today. Firstly he is ex-directory and thinks he is registered with the telephone preference agency but I guess that is unimportant.
Anyway he had a call today from a company called 'Claims something Direct' but he can't remember exactly the 'something' part. They immediately launched into a spiel about knowing he had been missold loan insurance and knew not only the High Street bank the loan was with but also that he had two loans with them but now only one which made him think it was a little more than a coincidence.
He asked them to call back which they did around 5pm today and when he asked them how they knew the information he was told it was gained from the 'Court of Justice' (he thinks as he was trying to write it all down) and that that information included his telephone number.
What's the story with this sort of call? My assumption would be that they would randomly cold call and hope to get lucky but given the information they seemed to know he is worried about how it was obtained.
As it happens he doesn't have any issue with the bank as he chose the PPI on each occasion and hasn't made any complaint about it's sale to his bank and is purely worried about how they got his details.
Is it a fluke or something more sinister?
