pension lump sum & tax

I've just been awarded the higher personal allowance for income tax tho I wont be 65 till next Jan. My question is the lump sum from my NHS pension is tax free so will it be added into my total income for the year. If it is it'll take me over the £22,500 allowed before you pay extra tax. Or coz its tax free will they not include it for tax purposes.
Thanks for any advise.
