I've just picked up Windows 7 Home Premium from Argos for £49.99. Weird thing is they couldn't deliver to my address so I changed the address to my mum's who lives 5 minutes away and the order went through.
Typically I ordered it from Amazon this morning for £69.99, not sure whether to cancel now.

Thanks just had the email from Argos and bought it. Anyone know if you can use it more than one pc? I have 2laptops and desktop in the house Nd would like to put it on all I don't need to buy 3 copies do i?0

I believe because it's the full version and not an upgrade you can use it on two computers, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.0

I'm waiting for the OEM version, I got Vista ultimate for £20 a few months after it came out because I got the OEM version and I'll do the same with Windows 7 if they're still doing it.0

I think it's called OEM ^0

OEM is exactly that though. Original Equipment Manufacturer.
In other words, you can only buy it with some hardware.
So if you've just bought an "OEM" copy off eBay, it's not legit.
Well, actually, that's not true, it is legit, but only for the machine that it was purchased with.
I think in the future, M$ may well find a way of locking an OEM copy down so that it only works on the machine it was sold with. The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

Operating systems can only be installed on one PC or laptop (ie only one system) whether it is the full version or an upgrade. MS Office though can legally be installed on both a laptop and desktop for instance.Comping 2008 wins £4842 2009 wins £950.50 2010 Wins £140 2011 £00 -
Windows 7 will not be offered in the EU as an upgrade, it'll be the full program as it cannot include Internet Explorer due to EU rules as they decided it wasn't right that Microsoft were only including the own browser and not everyone wanted that.
Because no browser will be included in Windows 7 it's advisable that you download a browser and keep it on a disc or memory stick for after you've installed Windows 7 as you won't be able to get on the internet, I read somewhere that discussions are taking place to see if browsers from different suppliers can be included on the disc, also you'll need to install Windows 7 as a clean install (from scratch) and not just upgrade your original operating system
One disc one machine by the way0 -
I was looking for this, but am doing a rebuild of an old XP desktop just now. I went to Amazon and managed to purchase Windows Vista Home Premium upgrade from Amazon for £61, and Amazon were offering a free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium on 22nd Oct. I was going to post this on here, but next day the deal had gone, it was an Amazon seller who was selling the product and all mention of the free Windows 7 upgrade had disappeared.
I emailed Amazon CS who have confirmed to me that I will get the free upgrade, but even when I click within the link in the email of qualifying products, Amazon seem to have stopped offering this deal.
This is the text from the email reply
" Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk regarding your concerns over Windows Vista and the release of Windows 7.
I have checked your order #***-******-****** and you are eligible for this promotion.
We understand and always aim to provide our customers the best possible value for money. This is why customers who have purchased an eligible copy of Windows Vista from Amazon.co.uk between 26th June and 15th October 2009 are eligible to receive the equivalent version of Windows 7 at no additional cost. On October 22nd Amazon.co.uk will automatically send you a unique claim code via email that will allow you to order a free copy of the equivalent Windows 7 product."
This is the link to qualifying products, but they all seem to have gone, sold out? Maybe like the Argos offer they will come back?
Edited to add, the offer is still there for the Vista products being sold by Amazon, but unfortunately all that is left are the more expensive "Ultimate" versions0 -
Thanks Ammie I've been looking for this at the original price it has gone up to over £70 most places.0

MS Office though can legally be installed on both a laptop and desktop for instance.
Only if the 2nd machine is used by the main user of the "primary" licence most of the time.
I know clear as mud, but you can't say have a desktop at home used only by Mrs MSE and a Laptop at home only used by Mr MSE, and install it on both. The ideas is Mr MSE has a desktop he uses at home and also his laptop when he's out..0
