Beef and pork...suggestions please!

Options
:hello:

I bought meat. :drool:

So, what can I make with sizzle steaks?

DSCN0989.jpg

They're about 5-6mm thick, and look well-suited to steak sandwiches. However, I'd like to do something more exciting than that. ;)

And then I've got some nice looking pork loin steaks:

I love pork. I just don't really have any ideas beyond grilling them.

Inspire me!

Cheers,
MBE :beer:
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    How about cutting the beef steaks into strips and using them to do a quick stroganoff-type thing with mushrooms and sour cream? Nice poured over a jacket potato if the weather's as miserable where you are as it is on the south coast!

    With the pork steaks, my favourite recipe's one I borrowed from the BBC's Good Food website - I'll look out the link for you if you're interested, but you basically mix peanut butter and sweet chilli sauce together and use as a topping for the pork, and stick it under the grill or in the oven. It sounds a bit odd but it's really lovely - a sort of super-easy satay.

    beef stroganoff, beef fajitas.

    pork chops with mustard. Just cover chops with whole grain mustard, sizzle on hot pan until cooked, deglaze anything with a bit of white wine and cream (milk will do), serve with pan fried potatoes and french beans.

    I don't really have a recipe for stroganoff - it's one of those things that ends up a bit different each time I make it! It's basically:
    • fry a sliced onion and some sliced mushrooms (or whole button ones) until soft;
    • add the sliced steak and cook until just browned;
    • add a bit of paprika, some soured cream and a splash of stock or water;
    • heat through until it's bubbling and serve.
    You can probably tell from that why I've never aimed for a career as a cookery writer! :)

    The recipe for the satay pork is here: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/10390/satay-pork-with-crunchy-apple-salad- (hope that works - I haven't posted a link on here before...)

    I had a really bad experience with the Asda Sizzle steaks. Cooked them as instructed (wanted to make sandwiches). They were tougher than any leather I have ever come across. It is the only time in my life I have returned a cooked item to a supermarket!!!
    I would be interested to know if yours was ok?

    I'll let you know when I get round to cooking them. They might end up in the freezer yet, so it could be a while. :o

  • Marinade in a little soy sauce and mirin/sake/shaoshing rice wine/sherry/something alcoholic, then chuck in hot frying pan with veg oil and a splash of sesame oil. Serve with rice. Yummy!

    Or chips and a fried egg. Also yummy!

    Or drop into pan of boiling stock with chopped spring onion, beansprouts, cabbage, shredded carrot, peas, sweetcorn (whatever you can find). Yummy meat, yummy veg, soup as well if you feel like it!

    For the pork, chuck various veggies and fruit (eg, courgettes, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, garlic, overripe plums, lemon, aubergines, cooked potatoes, cooked sweet potatoes, leeks, marrow chunks, whatever) into an ovenproof dish. Chop pork up and chuck on top. Follow with hoisin sauce (or brown sauce/HP) and tomato ketchup. Bake in oven and serve with rice or chips. Sticky ribs without the bones and plus lots of healthy veggies!

    I'm loving that pork idea - that'll definitely be in my menu plan when I get back from holiday. :drool: Thanks, Jojo!
