2nd home mortgage

Hi
First time on any forum ever!! My husband and I own our home (about 15 years of an £80k mortgage left on it) and have approx £75k equity in it. We need to buy a flat for him to live in as he works away during the week.The flat is £75k Is it true that we can only get a 2nd home mortgage from our current lender. This is the info from HBOS and while their rates are ok and they have agreed in principle I wanted to compare. Contacted HSBC/First Direct who said they couldnt offer a mortgage as the mortgage on our house isnt with them.
Any ideas would be much appreciated
