24Studio and other catalogues- has anyone claimed back admin charges?

Hi, This is my first post on here although I've been using the site for years and I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right section.

I've put in claims for everything like PPI, bank charges and credit card charges and I now want to take things a step further and claim back the admin charges and late payment fees from various catalogues, the main one is Studio. Has anyone had any experience reclaiming charges from catalogues, especially Studio, Additions and Vertbaudet?

To cut a long story short about 5 years ago I bought some christmas cards and wrapping paper from Studio costing about £10.00, moved house and din't pay for a few months, had £60.00 admin charges applied to my account. Being a student at the time I couldn't afford to pay in one lump sum and some months couldn't afford to pay at all and the whole thing snowballed......basically the wrapping paper and cards have taken me approximately 5 years to pay for and cost me about £400.00! Surely this is pure profit for Studio?
The other catalogues, Vertbaudet and Additions are pretty small claims for the odd late payment, so not sure if it's worth claiming...........surely it's worth claiming just to prove a point??

Has anyone any stories to share about your experiences from catalogue charges reclaiming? As I'm not sure what kind of reaction I'm going to get from these so called 'lenders' and whether they will actually pay up anything.

Does anyone have any idea if these statements are covered by the same data protection laws so that I can request my back dated statements to find out exactly what I am owed and if there is any cost for that?

Ta very much ;)

Although I don't usually have much sympathy with people who forget to pay bills and I regret I cannot offer any constructive advice, I am absolutely lost for words at the ridiculously excessive charge of £60. As for £400!!!!!!!!!, the words extortion, daylight robbery and usury spring to mind.

I hope you succeed in your quest and also hope another poster can give you some useful advice.

I did not say that I forgot to pay my bills - please don't make assumptions and judge people it is most unhelpful and rude....

    Thank you anyways ;)

Hi Superdude, im just going thru trying to claim back charges from Studio, empire and kays catalogues from a few years back.

You need to use the Credit card reclaim letter templates but just change bits to fit in with catalogues rather than credit cards but its mostly the same thing.

I have actually just had a reply from studio saying the charges were in my terms and conditions but im following martins advice and sending the next letter asking for the money back again. ive heard most of them give in so definately give it a go. im doing my mums for her too!

You will need to send them £10 max cheque to get your statements bk so you can work out exactly what they owe you.

    Any problems pm me :)

superdude - don't be so defensive, I'm not judging you. But in your post you say you didn't pay for a few months, which does imply you forgot.

  • I did manage to claim from studio but rejected their voucher. I sent an email through contact us on their website to request for all default charges on my account( i must say i didn't sent any payment to request for this info) I received the statement free of charge and applied for the charges. Within 5days, Studio agreed to refund the charges as a goodwill gensture. Because there was outstanding balance of £50 on the account, they decided to clear the balane and issued a £25 voucher for the remaining credit. I have since wrote them that i accept the voucher as a thank you to value customer but still want a cheque payment on the charges claim. Lets hope they accept this offer otherwise i will return the voucher. i need the cash and not forcing me to spend again.

What a pleasant surprise that this is possible - i hadnt thought of trying to claim this back, i think this will be my next step! Thanks for sharing!
  • I was thinking the same , I have a VERY and JD Williams catalogue and haven't bought anything for years but still keep on paying each month . I did ask them but didn't get a satisfactory reply . We have all got to stop these ridiculous charges .
