How long should I keep bank statements?

I've got all mine for at least 5 years. I'm on benefits and never know when they'll ask to see them, so I daren't get rid of any. I'll probably keep ones that are under 6 years when it gets that far. My online banking only shows a couple of months too, which is a bit annoying.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
