I've had a look at the links posted, and I'm fairly certain now that I've got the case making clothes moths rather than carpet beetles. I was going to hire a cleaner to do the carpet anyway, so this'll just make me do it that bit quicker.
I've also gone round the edges of the carpets having a proper look, and so far it just seems to be my bedroom, although there's more of the little beggars than I originally thought.
    There goes tomorrows day off.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • my freind has carpet bugs in the bedroom and we are trying to think of ways to get rid of them without spending a fortune on chemical products or having to get rid of the carpet. does anyone have any suggestions please. thankyou

you will need to describe them
  • Was also going to ask - what kind of bugs???? Are they fleas? Does your friend have pets?

you could read through this and use google images to see exactly what the critters are?

I had a flea infestation one time and what worked really well was to put some chemicals in the vacuum cleaner bag and then hoover thoroughly. Afterwards you must seal any vents/openings on the hoover with tape. You need some chemicals, but not as much as if you were to cover the whole carpet.
  • its definatley carpet bugs, looked on the net to find out, not fleas. she does have a dog now but this problem started before she got the dog. the are brown and white stripes with a concertina type body, about 5 mm is the largest we have found but they shed their skins so we know they grow larger.

Have you tried your local Council's website. Most of them have Pest Control Departments. Some provide the service for nothing and some of them charge - it's worth looking on the web first to check and then give them a call. Nothing ventured - nothing gained.

Good Luck - been there myself and know what it's like.
  • How do i get rid of carpet beetles?

Been noticing a couple over the past few weeks in my bedroom, just been killing them/hoovering them up. But they keep croping up!
  • I don't think the omens are good... we could never get rid of them.
A quick google suggests locating the source of the infestation:

'The first step in carpet beetle control is to trace the source of the infestation. This may be an old carpet, item of clothing, a new carpet from an infested store or warehouse or possibly a bird's nest in the loft area or chimneystack.'

Worth a shot I guess.... after that it seems to be insecticides!
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

My parents have them in their flat in a Victorian mill conversion (wool!). The pest control people reckon the carpet beetles live outside and come in when the windows are open, hence why the chemicals appeared not to work.

I got these once. I used some of that all-purpose insecticide spray (Raid??) from Tesco and sprayed it on the carpet around and under the chair where the infestation was. Got rid of them immediately. however I've never been able to move that chair because of the hole they ate in the carpet there, ick!
