I am sorry if I am being particularly dense here but what is brighthouse? Did you daughter sell goods that didn't belong to her? Some more information please

I am sure someone more knowledgeable will be here shortly....

Brighthouse are no better than loan sharks themselves.

Their rate of interest is sky high!

If she carries on paying Brighthouse then there is not much that they can do to her.

Has she thought of going to see citizens advice or of reporting the loan shark?

There are credit unions being set up to help people not to fall into the hands of loan sharks but it may be too late for your daughter.

Im not sure what brighthouse goods are either - are they on HP or something and so technically not belonging to her. Is there a contract involved ?

Brighthouse are those shops that have just set up in poorer areas - selling tvs, washing machines etc etc.

By the time you have paid off what they ask over a couple of years you could have bought the washing machine four times over!

I think Brighthouse are one of these places that sell you furniture and you pay it back over 20 years with an APR of 60% - you know the sort.

I dont know how she will get out of this sorry - I hope someone can help you soon

Last time I checked somthing bought on HP isnt owned till the last payment is made, so this would be classed as selling stolen goods. They will most likly have to face court, and just hope they dont involve the police (unlikly but still a chance)

Why did she stop paying them? If she couldnt afford them they come with cover that they can be sent back with no penities.

EDIT, they are not set up in poorer areas, I live in a fairly affluent area and we have one here and in the neighbouring towns, they are aimed at people who cannot get credit, not at the poor.

So, my understanding so far is that nettibetti's daughter had an HP agreement with brighthouse. She then sold the goods to pay off an aggressive loan shark.

Is she now in arrears with brighthouse, hence the trouble?

My parents used Brighthouse for many many years (It used to be called Crazy Georges) They are total rip off merchants, but when you have no credit and no money and your washing machine packs up while you still have 3 kids at home then you have very little choice but to use them.

I dont think she owes Brighthouse but I think she is scared of the consequences of her actions.

Surely she could just keep paying the HP payments because Brighthouse will not know she has sold the goods unless she defults and has to give the goods back and she has the loanshark off her back.

But she is paying for what she hasn't got ??

Sorry about getting it wrong - I had only seen Brighthouse when we drove past a particular district of Leeds so I took it for granted that they were targeting poorer areas.

Might be worth the daughter seeing a lawyer if she is eligible for legal aid?
