I really wish they would do these programmes about ordinary people not people who live in 635k houses. It is like some of these find me a house programme and they have I mil to spend they just make me turn off.

I also don't know why this family didn't have a weight problem the volume of food they ate in a month wouldn't have looked out of place for Gillian McKeith - although there was more colour than a typical Gillian monochrome brown.

There were some great recipes in there.

Having said that, i could not for the life of me understand why the guy was seen opening two or three plastic type supermarket cartons of meat !

His best bet for quality and value would surely have been to go to his local butcher.

Asda definately sell Brisket as i have bought it.

Chuck steak is also known as stewing steak isn't it? which they also sell.

I must admit i missed the first 15 minuites, but i though the misleading part was advertising it as a thrifty programme then spending over £200 on the weekly shop.

I know! Me and MF both gulped at that when they said it.:D

His Mum feeds a family of 5 on £50 p/w!!

For heaven's sake, go to a butcher then:rolleyes: It isn't rocket science.

He'll be able to recommend alternatives too. Our local butcher is great. We had a great alternative to brisket a couple of weeks ago, there's no chance of me remembering what it was called, but he'll oblige when I ask for "whatever it was we had a couple of weeks ago." BTW it was nicer than brisket too.

Lots of inverted snobbery on this thread methinks. Not a good advert for the board.

they did say at the end that they had further cut the spend to £160 a week..still sounds a lot but i guess a huge improvement on what they were doing, £50 a week on puddings

I know it's not rocket science.

You know it's not rocket science.

The question is why the programme uses a butcher to describe economical cuts of meat, specifies a cut of meat you'll only normally find in a butcher's shop to make the recipe - and then cuts straight to footage of the family in the local supermarket.

    Which has neither.

Just a bit of coherent thinking in the planning of the episode, surely - am I expecting too much here? What's the point suggesting these splendid (and they are splendid!), cheaper cuts of the animal in one scene, and then packing the family off to buy plastic trays of standardised, pre-packaged volume beef from a store where that's all on offer in the next?
Oh come on, don't be silly.

    It's the internet
    - it's not real!

First one was definitely Spondon - I'd recognize that particular armpit of hell store anywhere (including the incredibly annoying slight slope on the carpark to add to the heavy trolley manouvering fun)!
Don`t know that particular area, but you certainly gave me a much needed laugh, thanks.

'Armpit of hell' I must remember that. :rotfl:
