Still not found work eh? Surprising!

Back ON topic, OP, just be yourself. Of course they want to put you into a job - they earn money from it. What lot of people don't seem to understand sadly (mostly the ones with a stinky attitude) is that it's about the right bum on the right seat, so don't be too surprised if something you may think you are suitable for they don't agree. You may have seen a job spec but you don't know what the client have asked for. Hopefully if they are any good - they will listen to what you say and find the best job for you, not just any old job.

    Good luck!

Yes its these numpties who decide who to put forward for job vacancies and who not to !. It is incredibly frustrating trying to apply for a job with these agencies when you meet all the criteria for a job description, yet they will not submit your cv to the employer.
Lets get rid of all agencies and have a free national database of job vacancies where they give equal opportunites for everyone applying.

I had no problem with agencies in my days, I was registered with Manpower and then moved onto Connections as they offered a better pay rate. Yes they do take a fee direct from your wages, but it still proved viable compared to JSA.

I was eventually taken on by a company after working for them as a temp, in my case it proved a worthwhile venture. whatever you choose, good luck ;)

The sentence after the one you emphasised read, "You may have seen a job spec but you don't know what the client have asked for."

Seems to me that if the client can't get their act together with a decent job description, the fault doesn't lie entirely with the agency.

They will use you for odd days here and there... I hope you have a better time on these Agency's than I did.

You will need to call them often, preferably everyday or they will forget about you. Agencies currently have more staff than vacancies, and the ones who make most noise get the jobs.

Disagreeing slightly with Hellsgranny - YES you need to keep in touch, but every day would drive me mad! I ask my temps to keep in touch once a week. Of the 300+ on my system, maybe about 5/10 actually do that every week, but those guys are the guys I always call first as I know i'm not wasting my time calling people who never call me back!

You're entirely right LittleVoice. I had a job in from a client on Monday. They want an all singing, all dancing administrator. The description of the role I was given? 4 lines! I've tried to get more information from my client but he is so busy, he doesn't have time. And yet I am still expected to fill the role with the most suitable candidate.

I placed this job on Reed Monday pm. In less than 24 hours I had over 50 applications from Reed alone - most of the people who applied, told me on the email how suitable they were for the role - but only a handful of them actually had experience in what the job is doing, which is what my client has asked for.

You had to have a car to get to the client (just off the m-way) most who applied answered no to that question that they did not. They still thought they were suitable for the job tho and applied anyway. What i'm trying to say is, you might think your suitable, but you will never know the full story of what is required by the client, and half the time, you will skip over the relevant bits and apply regardless.

Administration - it's not rocket science granted, but if my client tells me he wants previous experience, regardless of how well I think you can do the job, if you don't have experience to back that up on your CV, how can I send you? My client will ditch me in a second. Especially when there are hundreds out there right now who DO have that experience.

It's not all as black and white as you "agency haters" seem to think it is. Our jobs are tougher now than ever before!

Sorry to go off topic again OP. You never did come back and let us know how you got on. Does that mean you are out interviewing? :D

my answer from the other thread a while back hasn't been answered yet - how can I have a 100% success rate when I apply directly to the company, yet be 100% unsuccessful when I try and get a job through an agency? How can this be?

Well said ! I have been refused to be put forward for roles with job agencies, yet when the same vacancy has appeared for whatever reason in the press at a later time, the company have interviewed me when applying direct.
Some of these numpties working in agencies just haven't got a clue !!

yeah exactly - My question still has not been answered because it can't be. It just shows how inept these agencies and the majority of their staff really are.
