Mortgage option advice needed please

My ex and I brought a property together just over a year ago. He left shortly after. In the meantime he has continued to pay the mortgage but now wants out. He wants to sell, but the property has slipped into negative equity and I can't afford the debt and so can't afford to sell for less than what we brought for. He is saying that he will stop paying the joint mortgage and isn't concerned about the debt or if the property is repossessed (he doesn't have any money anyway). Where do I stand with a) the standing my ground on the selling price and b) if he stops paying? ( I don't fully understand repossession). I am getting mixed messages from my lender and my solicitor.

If he stops paying and you can't afford the repayments then the lender will eventually looking at repossessing the house, which will mean a court order, court costs, bailiff and being ejected from the house. They will then look to sell the property for what can be made on it and any debt left over will still be owed by both you and your ex partner. Credit history desimated and you wouldn't be able to obtain credit easily and certainly wouldn't get a mortgage again. - Repossession scenario!
If you can't maintain the mortgage on your own can you let a room out and get some income that way to help with the costs?
What did your lender say?
Bet the solicitor said something daft like stop paying and we can try to go to court ....
How much in negative equity do you think the property is?
