can someone help me out here i have been looking at houses and i dont think i understand the tax bands. for instance my mum lives in a band B area and according to the web she should be paying @£700 but after speaking to her she said she pays £147 a month can someone please explain this to me or how me a website that tells you how it is

Each house has its own band, each area has its own charges.

If you're in Scotland it's possible her sewage and water charge is added in with her council tax.

If your mum is band B she will have about £270 to pay a year. It's usually added in with your council tax and you pay it altogether. You wouldn't have topay a sewage charge if you have a septic tank though. You would pay for someone to empty that yourself.
