Problem with Ultimate Credit Services

Back in April, I recieved a letter out of the blue, at my new address (had only moved in two months previous) from Ultimate Credit Services, chasing a debt for £180-odd from MEM Consumer Finance Limited. Now, I went through a tough period between 2003 and 2005, and it is entirely possible that I may have used the said company, but certainly cannot recall.

Anyway, I ignored the letter. About a week later, I started recieving regular phone calls from them (I guess they stuck my name in the BT Phonebook and got my number and address from that as its a new phone line). I never confirmed any details over the phone and demanded everytime to deal with them in writing. The continued to ring several times for weeks until the end of June.

At this point I sent a CCA request letter to them, along with a demand not to call me and to deal with me in writing. Still the phone calls came and they denied recieving the letter. I sent a second one. Phone calls still kept coming, and they denied recieving that one too. So I emailed the letter including the request not to call, on the morning of July 10th. I recieved a reply within two hours saying that the account was now closed and that they were no longer dealing.

Superb. I thought.

A week later, another phone call. I explained about the email exchange, and was appologised to and told thats the end of the matter.

Yesterday, I recieved another telephone call. I explained about the email to which I was abruptly told that the reply wasn't from them!! I read the email reply to her verbatim, even quoting the name of the bloke that sent it. She backed down and appologised once again.

Two hours after that, my other half answered the phone. This time it was the bloke named in the email, and has requested that I call him back at 8am on an 0870 number.

Now, does the fact that they have replied saying that the account is now closed by email mean anything? Can they still persue this even though its well after the 14 days for them to respond to the CCA request? And is there anything I can do further to stop them calling? Should I call this bloke in the morning???

Thanks in advance.
