Cap Quest Horror

Hello,
I hope somebody out there can please help me. I'm a first-time poster!
I was declared bankrupt in 2007 and discharged from bankruptcy in 2008.
I today received several letters from Cap Quest, each pertaining to different accounts I once held with Abbey. In each case, Cap Quest said that Abbey had sold my account debt to them and Cap Quest was now seeking repayment from me; if I did not contact Cap Quest, they would instruct their solicitors to contact me on or around 6th August and start the legal process. I was given a phone number to call but I tried phoning lots of times this evening and my call was not answered.
Can Cap Quest actually demand any money from me as a discharged bankrupt, or is it just a case of Abbey giving them out-of-date information about my account history? I'm worried about what to do. Should I send Cap Quest a copy of my bankruptcy order or should I just ignore them?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Tell them to !!!! off if they phone. They have no legs to stand on if the debt was from before your BR. Send them a copy of your BR certificate and if you had a letter of discharge then a copy of that to. If it does get to court then just go and show your BR certificate and the judge will tell them to Foxtrot Oscar.
The DCA's buy debts in bulk and banks etc. quite often put BR debts in just to get rid of them and get a few pence. The DCA won't know every debt they are purchasing but they should check all details before chasing, but quite often will send out letters like this to see if someone doesn't know the law and will give them some money through panic.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Hi ya,
Welcome to the board. IF teh accounts in question were prior to your BR date then just send Capquest your BR order as there is nothing they can do. Often DCA's bulk buy accounts and aren't notified of any that may have been br. Abbey shouldn't have really sold it on.
Ring in the morning & tell them the good news.BSC 289A life lived in fear is a life not living!Proud to have dealt with my debts.0 -

No problem 27 July.
Have you checked your CRF's since being discharged?

affluenza - thank you for that. They won't be very happy with Abbey!

tigerfeet2006 - brilliant advice. I had no idea that could be done. Thanks for the link; I will definitely look into doing that.0 -
It's a pleasure

Yes, its a good idea to clean up your credit reference file as TF suggest this will prevent these things happening.
