Bad bread day!
Gers
Following on from the useless sourdough bread I tried to make the other day I've come home tonight and tried to make a common and garden ordinairy loaf in the BM... trouble is I forgot to put the yeast in!! It's now on it's third rising and looking like a pebble. Is there anything I can do with yeastless hard bread or should I turn off the BM and start again??

awww soryy Gers but that did make me laugh. I decided to let my daughter help me in the kitchen the other week. I gave her the recipie for basic bread and the measuring spoon, scales and all of the ingredients. 3 3/4 hours later I was looking forward to lovely home made bread - it was a brick  instead of putting in 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt she put in 1 1/2 tablespoons :rotfl:
Sorry I cant offer any advice on your predicament but hopefully one if the oldstylers will be along soon with advice. Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Feed the ducks?

Only joking, sound like you're having a right old time of it lately. Forgetting to put the yeast in is just like something I would do....I forgot  to put the carrots into my first ever carrot cake
It was in the oven when I spotted the carrots on the worktop. I hastely removed it from the oven and tried to mix them through...needless to say it was a disaster and it didn't even make it to the icing stage!
Must learn not to count chickens before they are hatched!!!!:D
Every day is a new challenge not a new problem!:p

TBH my bad bread day is the least of my worries right now so why I'm stressing it is beyond me.. easier to stress the small things than worry about the big things, eh??
Well, it's cooking now. Can I say 'BUM' on this forum?? If I can ... can I say it three times in a row??
Will try again tomorrow, it's another day!

Hi Gers
You are not alone. Last time I used my BM I forgot to put a kneding arm in. 3 minutes later, only when my OH said that BM maked strange noises, it dawned on me.... had to scoop everything out very carefully, put the missing part in and start again. All well what ends tasty...0 -

About two months ago, I forgot to put yeast in my bread too and it came out as a solid heavy lump. Tried to feed it to our chickens and they turned their noses up completely!I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0 -
I got a.... maybe crazy..... idea. What if you grate your loaf or put it in a food processer and make lots of bread crumbs?
Sorry if this suggestion is stupid..0 -

It's no more stupid than me forgetting to put the yeast in... don't beat yourself up! BUM.. or have I said that already?
OK.. it's now burning in the BM, rescue time and then I am opening a bottle of wine!0 -
I've done it more than once, and yes BUM. I couldn't find anythign to do with it either, though I could possibly have painted it and sold it on ebay as a doorstop. Mind you the postage would've been a fortune.
Forgot to put the carrots in the carrot cake, haha, what a laugh.
I have forgotten to put eggs/flour in various cakes, oh and sugar. Dimbo.
Forgotten to turn on th eoven/hob.
Forgotten to turn off the oven/hob.
Thought I may have forgotten to turn off oven/hob, and called neighbour to ask her to go and check.
And I'm sure I'll be back when I've remembered all the other stupid things I've forgotten.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
breadcrubs is what i do to. loaves with a bad outcome, dont get bricks, sometimes get burnt or if it's a new recipe we may not like it... these get blitzed as breadcrumbs and put in freezer. waste not want not.

There's still half a brick loaf in the back garden from a bad batch of yeast about 3 weeks ago. I saw a blackbird having a good peck at it yesterday so it is being eaten, but very slowly and of course its under the snow right now.Make £2025 in 2025
