The reason they do this is for their customer so that they don't get stung with import tax or Duty. Like Arthurian Said to send it it'll probably cost £30 if that, so that's £60 for the dress. Plus the cost of living in China is sooooooo much cheaper. What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0

But that's the cost of the fabric here in the UK. It costs much less in China. Hell, I'm in Germany and some of the heavier lace fabrics are under €20/m. It comes down to what the market will support and the availability of the materials.
A McDonalds meal is cheap in the UK because it is available wherever you turn and it's considered a quick nasty option. It's comparatively expensive in China because there aren't so many of them and they're inordinately fashionable. It costs half a day's average wage for a burger in North Korea because you can only buy them at one place and it's seriously exclusive.
Silks and satins cost a lot in the UK because they need to be imported and they're relatively rare. In China, Thailand and India they're not rare and hence not as expensive.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

True, but Nottingham lace is made, well, here in UK. A substitute similar lace was used and the customer was slightly dissatisfied because instead of nice clear sequins which would shimmer and catch the light, she got silver ones!!
I have silk suppliers who are very reasonable. Silk chiffon at £4.00m!! I pass my wholesale prices on to my customers. I tell them never buy off the high street.
Anyway, it's down to personal choice. As for Macdonalds, they don't even have them in Cuba!!! :beer:0 -
Ever read No Logo? Addresses these very issues...Yes, there are cases of people being paid about 40p a day and being forced to sleep under their sewing stations , but the key thing about this issue is that it is increasingly the more expensive branded goods that are made by exploiting people in developing countries. As one poster rightly pointed out, the only way around this is to buy fairtrade or to do your homework on the company who makes/sells your goods. You may complain about the exploitation of the worker who made your wedding dress on the cheap, but I'll bet some of these people also own an iPod, wear Gap chinos or Nike trainers!0

My friend bought her dress from china last year and she was very disappointed with it, it was not made very well and materials were not very good, she had to get another one.Married 09/09/090
