Indigostarfish Poundsaver gift - what's the deal?

I received a card in the post this morning telling me "a special free gift has been reserved in my name" by PoundSaver, as a "special thank you for ordering with us". The postcard has the Indigostarfish name and logo on both sides. The return address for undelivered cards is Poundsaver, PO Box 19072, London, N7 9ZD.
I am highly suspicious because the card claims the value of the gift is over £100; I just have to pay postage and packing. It instructs me to call an 0800 number to claim.
Apparently this "incredible limited offer is only available to our loyal customers".
I have purchased from Indigostarfish on a fairly regular basis, but this still seems very odd.
So, what's the deal? I work by the 'if it seems to good to be true, it probably is too good to be true' guideline, and this is definitely ringing some warning bells!

Hi, sounds a bit odd but if you have purchased from them before it could be ok. I would call them as it is a free phone number you have nothing to loose. See what they have to say, if the postage is really low go for it, but my guess is that is where they will get you. But since it is a free number to call you cant loose anything from calling. Withhold your number so they cant get that

It sounds like one of those scams where you are charged a phenomenal amount of money per minute for a convoluted phone call and then the 'prize' (or 'gift') turns out to be rubbish. Also, does it specify the amount for postage and packing?
From http://www.callagenix.com/phonenumbers/0800_numbers.html "Your 0800 number "sits" on top of your UK landline number only. When customers dial your 0800 free phone number they are redirected to your own landline. This does not affect your UK landline number in any way. 0800 free phone numbers will only work diverting to UK landline numbers they will not work diverting to other number types such as mobile or international."
You have no guarantee that the call won't be diverted from that landline to another line.0 -
Maybe, but the card says ' Call us FREE on 0800 xxx xxxx This call is completely free'
I still have no clue what it's about.
And no, the P&P amount is not specified on the card.

If you purchased anything from amazon you will probably get this card.
I called them from work and it turned out they are giving away some hotel vouchers for up to twenty something days to be used until :mad:0 -
I got one of these this morning, might try and ring off my old pay and go mobile0

i got one of the cards today and phoned up. it was the hotel vouchers which i was told could be used in over 100 hotels for up to 21 days and are valid for 1 year. they also offered me a 30 day trial in the poundsaver club which could save me money in lots of shops including asda, debenhams etc.... and if i decided at the end of the 30 day trial i wanted to become a member it would be £86 for the year (or something like that). to get the welcome pack and my hotel vouchers i had to pay £1.60 postage now. i decided to pay it as i thought i might be able to save that money over the next month with the poundsaver club trial, and if i didn't it was only £1.60. I have no intention of taking out the full membership so i checked how easy it was to not become a member at the end of the trial and i was told you phone a free phone number that is given in the pack and tell them if you do or do not want to take out the membership after 30 days.
i'll let you know how i get on and if it was worth the £1.60 postage costs!0 -
I also phoned to enquire about the offer and decided the p&p was okay to pay. However I still haven't received anything in the post. Has anyone heard anything at all yet?0

Hi,
I called and asked about the free gift, ordered it too. It came and well its hotel vouchers that can be redeemed for up to 3x7 nights stay in hotels around uk and ireland. They offer free accomodation but you have to buy breakfast and dinner for each day you stay. this ranges from £30-80 a day. But to get this "gift" you only apply for if you take them up on there discount card, this cost £90 and is automatically renewed annually. It gives you money off in high street stores etc... You can cancel in 30 days and receive no charges. The p&p was £1.60. The pack arrived and wasn't really for me so I have just called and told them not to debit my account for the £90. You can keep the vouchers, but there not much use really. if the £90 does disappear from my account after the 30 days I will let you know... stop press! While writing I decided to check the website (only got this info with the pack) It is either broken or fake! only has front page and contacts, also looks really cheap... poundsavercard.co.uk I also can't find a website for the parent company so on reflection don't do it...
edit: Have checked my bank nothing has gone out, will keep a beedy eye out for any charges. The parent company is Encore card marketing Ireland limited, rather oddly they never took the £1.60 postage charge either. But if it looks like a fish, smeels like a fish, its a fish... Lesson Learn't, Hope i haven't been suckered!
Sorry for the long post, should have done all my digging 1st not half way through...0 -
as i said in my previous post i decided to take up their offer and had a very similar experience to andylondon2.
i have not yet been charged anything and also rang up to cancel my membership the day i got it as i don't think i will use any of the offers in the pack. most of the offers in shops and restaurants require you to phone up pound saver and order gift vouchers and you get a certain % extra free.
however i was able to see all of the website and all the offers once you login with the number on my card. once you cancel your membership the number no longer works and you can only see the front page. i also phoned up poundsaver as i could not find an offer given in the booklet on their website and they directed me to a partner's website and gave me a code to get the discount. i think this is only worth it if you are willing to buy vouchers/ gift cards in advance of shopping. (although if you shop in asda a lot it might be worth it)
also i found that original hotel vouchers i 'won' will only really be useful if you were intending to spend a holiday in a place where there is a participating hotel. i will hold on to them as they are valid until the end of 2010.0
