Expiry Dates

Do the expiry dates on HP cartridges actually mean anything?

Currently have two HP inkjet cartridges (no 28) which have an expiry date of Apr 2005 (hubby buying too many at a time!).

Are they safe to use or will printer self destruct?

I'd have thought there was no harm in using them if they've never been used at all.

No problems at all. I've used HP cartridges that have been up to 5yrs out of date & they still work perfectly. I've still got one in my drawer now which has an expiry date of 2001.:o

I reckon the worst that can happen is that the ink will have dried up. No harm in trying it though.

I used a very old ink cartridge on an old printer of mine whilst my newer one was sent for repairs. The ink expiry date was out by a little over 4 years. Just give the cartridge a little shake (before removing any seals ect) and should work perfectly fine
