Help! paying back for being a stupid student!

Hi all,

I am sure this forum post will make me sound very silly and irresponsible but I promise at the time I was not thinking straight! While studying at Uni I didn't land up taking a student loan I did land up taking up a normal loan (£3,000) and also an overdraft (£2,000) and a credit card (£300). I got heavily into debt and even though I paid part of the loan I couldn't keep up with everything. I eventually left the country for a work placement and spent 3 years out of the UK.

I am now back in the country (much more mature!) and dreading the repercussions of my stupid student ways! I have since moved from the place I used to live and haven't had any correspondence regarding any of the amounts owed. I am petrified to call them up as I am unemployed and six months pregnant and I know the stress is going to get to me. I don't even have the money to start repaying them yet.

What can I do? I am not sleeping most nights dreading the day the letters start coming in the post?

  • Hi welcome to the boards and don't worry; we all do silly things. Now just focus on sorting them out!

Have you checked your credit report yet? This might give you a clearer picture of your current financial status. I use Experian and Equifax which are both good companies.
