Re-frozen sardines - safe to eat?

I've defrosted some sardines but just noticed that on the packet it says don't refreeze as its already been frozen. Should I risk it?? Are they known for causing food poisoning?

I'm not clear: do you mean that when you bought them they were not frozen and then you froze them when you got them home later?

Fish spoils an awful lot faster than meat, so refreezing can carry a risk but sometimes food manufacturers put warnings on things more to cover their own a**es than to explain the actual risk you might undertake. What's your instinct telling you?
