Hello hay09,
I think this thread has got bogged down in rabbits. It has already been suggested you post a SOA. If you do this not only will YOU understand your money better but you will get a lot more balanced advice.
Do it today.
Also start a spending diary TODAY to find out exactly where you money goes. Knowledge is power.
Good luck, looking forward to your next post. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

No, £30 for food etc is my lunches at work, as i still live with my mum she does the shopping and some of my board money goes to that.I do have an older sister who is better with her money than me!!
.
I get a bale of hay from a farm. One of my rabbits have teeth problems so every 2-3months im about £60 to get them burred. They all need 6monthly injections and 1 yearly one which is £16 each approx, i get a discount for having so many though. One of them have problems with his stomach so need meds for that etc. They get veg which im approx £5-7 a week for. Like i say im not always that a month, but sometimes am so i thought id put it.Im coping not to bad just now. I just want to be able to afford a house etc....:( if i was debt free id be so much happier. I constantly feel so stressed and angry at myself just now for getting to this stage!!
You sound like a young lass trying to make her way in the world. Take all this as experience. Experience in looking after money. Experience in how having no money effects you and your life. How getting into debt is not the best thing to do. It is called "The experience of growing up".
I have had times when I had so much money I would not think twice if for example my younger sister (who was on a low wage) mentioned she fancied a break I will send her on an all paid holiday including spending money. I have also had times when I was so broke I would keep the cigarette butts so when I ran out of bacci I could take them apart to make a ciggi. (Yep I have some bad habits and one of them is smoking).
BUT, what you have to look at is that you may be at position ZERO. There is two ways you can go. Below zero (which is not recommended) or up. So be optimistic and look at going up. The more you pay from what you owe, the more up you will go.
Then later on, when you have learnt to be wise with money, think of buying your own home. And most of all, when you go to buy your own home, you will have learnt a lesson which is to "never jump in too deep". Because doing that, you already know how hard it can be. So look for a flat first if you want to buy a property. Then move up the ladder when you are more secure.
Hope I do not sound like an old nag but, I am trying to tell you for your own best.

That's a real shame, I hope you change your mind. This site has been an absolute godsend to me, I was in a similar position to you not so long ago, and now I'm almost debt free. There's no way I could have done it half as quickly without this site.
I also have pets and I would rather go without myself than let them go without or suffer in any way.
I'd suggest you post an SOA and people will help see if there are other areas you can save money in; if that's how much your bunnies cost, then that's how much they cost and it's non negotiable.Debt at LBM (17/10/08) £5727.61 Debt free date 31/08/090 -
I hope that you do come back. Hoof - hearted was probably just trying to lighten the mood, and everyone else who has posted has actually tried to help you - read the posts again. I understand why you feel that the problem is not the rabbits but the 400-450 a month in interest that you are paying, but I suspect that what we are all seeing (and that you have yet to see) is that the real problem is whatever it is that has got you into the position of having £8000 debt, poor credit and accepting a huge loan from your boyfriend (never a good idea - read some of the horror stories from the debt free wannabe forum), and also why you feel angry and stressed to the degree that you do.
Nobody is judging you or making light of your situation - I bet many of us wish we owed £8k. Help and advice is available if you stick with MSE, some you'll like, some you won't but my advice would be to give it another go. Post up your SOA, as another poster suggested and see what happens.

Hi i understand your connection and love for your rabbits but perhaps you would be better off reducing you numbers of rabbits? they are your main source of expenditure or so it seems. to leave now would be unwise because people only want to help you - have your tried takign your rabbits to the PDSA if you are struggling?O/S Debt: PL £[STRIKE]15207.34[/STRIKE] £9884.55; HSBC £4060.99; Tesco£1430.15; M&S £5990.17; Virgin [STRIKE]£5158.69[/STRIKE] £4210.14; Egg £4619.00; O/S = ££30,292.42 AIM - To Be Debt Free 56 months0

What the young lady has to accept is that, she says she wishes she can buy a house with her boyfriend but actually, her circumstances are not really that bad. She says that she is unhappy but really it is not that bad.
I can in a way see how she is looking at things. Most probably she is looking at:
Wages £800
Now let us look at possibly having no debt:
Outgoings: (if she moves out of her mothers then do not have to pay board)
20.00 Phone bill
25.00 insurance on car.
80-100 petrol a month (for work only)
approx 30 a month on dinner.
Total: £175 (approximately)
Balance: £625
Oh what a lovely amount. Should get a mortgage with that (If did not have all this debt). Move in with my boyfriend and live happily ever after.
My dear, you have not learnt your lesson yet. (I am sorry if I am going to sound harsh but read what I am going to tell you and understand).
Let us start:
You say £25 insurance on car. You forgot MOT and servicing/labour/parts/road tax. So let us allow say £40 a month for that.
To rent a property it is about £100 a week (and for that amount of money you will not get anything special and defo not furnished). To buy you have to look at something about £500 minimum a month!!!!!!!!! And believe me for £500 a month you aint going to get anything really decent and defo not a house.
So up to now sub total is £540. What did we have to start with? £625 (after most basic of expenses). You are already down to £85 left a month. (And we are not even considering the rabbits yet!!!!!!)
Then you have council tax, electric bill, gas bill, water rates, most probably contents insurance (unless you want to be unprotected and cry when something gets broken or stolen)......... will all that be covered by £85? Sorry NO.
Then on top of that you have furniture (well you need some if you buy a flat/house) and carpets, wallpaper etc etc to make it a bit decent to live in.
And we have not even looked at clothing, shoes, groceries including the likes of toilet paper, shampoo, washing up liquid etc and most of all have not even looked at that second meal that your mum cooks for you when you return from work, internet that you use at your mums.......... and yes, the list goes on and on and on
Have a look round your mothers home. Do you think she got all that in one day?
To be honest, with your outgoings (dont worry I aint going to mention rabbits) you have hardly any "movement" where you can cut expenses to get rid of the debt.
What I can suggest is have a talk with your mum. Ask her if you do chores (or if your mum and dad still live together ask your dad as well). Washing his car on the weekend and hovering it. If he takes the car to a carwash and to a valet he has to pay. Cooking is another one. Your mum gets a break cooking for the family. You act as the cook (and besides you will learn some good cooking skills). Babysitting (if you have younger siblings). Neighbours and friends if they need anything done. Lawnmowing............
With the amount of debt outgoings you have, if you manage to do chores that earn you say £200 a month (that is about £50 a week) you should have an easier life.
As to moving out to live with your boyfriend? Take a good piece of advise and go on the Council waiting list. At least you should be able to afford their rent. BUT...... take a piece of paper. Have a look at the items I have mentioned and before you do anything....... work out the pros and the cons first. Remember, finances is one of the MAJOR killer of relationships in todays time. And least thing you may want is to take on a lot of finance because "you are in love" and then finish with a lot more debt if the relationship fails. And believe me, it aint no joke if you move in with your boyfriend and the relationship fails. My kid went and got his own flat (council) because he wanted his "independent status". He got broken into and moved out. Moved into my home. (Yep I am an idiot. Never charged him a penny for anything). Nowadays he lives with his partner but my spare bedroom is like a store room and he had to throw (or give away) a lot of things cos I have no more storage space. So all that money wasted.
