It is best to soak in a bucket of water first, though you could try just putting them in the washing machine on a rinse only cycle first, then following on with a normal wash.0

When I used nappies for my son (now 9) we used terry cloth nappies, I soaked them in water and tea tree oil until I had enough for a wash then washed them at 60C, or if they were really dirty, 90C. I don't think mine would have come clean at 40C if I'm honest.2025 - Declutter to Move House

what cycle did you use, and do you have a fancy water saving washing machine?
You may find, doing a rinse and spin cycle first will get out more urine, then follow that up, with a proper wash
tbh, cloth nappies do have a slight wee smell whilst still wet, but shouldnt once dry. i think the problem is most people have got used to having washing coming out the machine smelling of 'spring meadow' and 'oriental blossom', so when you dont use scented washing powder, the lack of scent means things smell a bit off. when in all reality its just we arent used to the smell of damp washing anymore. However, using too much powder, can also give a wee smell, so maybe drop your dose - 1/4 of a cup should be enough
Wet pailing isnt really suitable for modern nappies, as leaving them sitting in water, can rot the elastic. Dry pailing is definitely the way to go

We dry pail(wet pailing, ick). We use a variety of nappies, both preshaped and flat terries. We wash at 60 but I am concidering washing at 40. I use the prewash and the extra rinse with out problems. When possible we dry them outside. Hope you find a solution that works for your asap.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Old fashioned way...rinse and dump them in bucket with nappisan/milton in it. I didn't worry about non-bio, used ariel/daz with no problems, but whacked the dial up to 60 on the full cycle, not the easycare or economy, extra rinse. I think there's probably some law that stops them from saying they need to be really hot to kill the bacteria. They need it. Ignore the labels in this case and nuke 'em. It's not moneysaving to have to wash them 5 tomes to get smells out.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

It's been a few years now, but I think I used to put vinegar in the final rinse - stops the smell and softens. Nothing beats a good blowout on the washing line for freshness - which doesn't help in the current monsoon season I know!0

I had to wash mine at 60 otherwise they just didnt come out clean, washing below 60 wont kill germs either. Every 3rd wash would be at 90 with a prewash.0

hiya, I wash mine on a quick wash (40 mins) at 30 degrees but with a little scoop of napisan, so I don't need the heat to kill the germs, as this is more expensive
Hanging them out on the line gets rid of any smells
