Special 50th Birthday present - hotel vouchers?

Options
We have been invited to a friend of the families 50th birthday party in 3 weeks time and I need some help in organising a special present.

The lady whose birthday it is has been diagnosed with terminal cancer so therefore we dont want to get her something silly like perfume etc and wanted to put together as a group and get her something a bit special.

I think we will have approx 250 pounds and thought of perhaps bookinga hotel or spa break - so my question is do major hotel chains like marriott/hilton do vouchers so we dont need to stipulate the hotel and she can choose for herself where to go?

Or you could try a virgin voucher, they cover hotels and experiance days like ballon flights, spa days etc.. so they could choose what to spend it on

The only thing I'd say is that some spa treatments are not suitable for people with cancer, and reputable spas may not provide them. Massage has been linked in some cases with metastasis.

we stay at a warner leusire hotel for our honeymoon last yr for a couple of nights, (didnt want to leave the kids too long) the one we stayed at was thoresby hall in nottingham, its adults only and so beautiful i would recommend it, there is a spa but as stated the lady may not be able to have many of the treatments with illness but a lovely gift shop inside with a great jewellery display. 3 or 4 different restaurants and a bar, evening entertainment ie ballroom dancing or comedy night, it is very much for the lady in questions age range. the hotel itself is fantastic and the views are marvellous.

you can buy vouchers for the hotel and there is a chain of them but not many
