Possible to Check my Credit Report for an old address?

Is it possible to check my credit report for an old address? I'm worried that I may have an old debt and want to check it against the old address, where I was living when I may have missed a payment?

I have not heard anything for the last couple of years. My friends keep telling me to leave it, my credit report for my current address is clean as a whistle as far as debt. My friends keep saying, "they'll find you if you owe anything...they haven't found you so you probably don't owe anything". Is that really true?

Do you really want debt collectors to find you and send you threatening letters? If you are registered to vote (it's the law!) or have any accounts at your present address then eventually you will probably be found.

If it's been six years since you made contact the debt is statute barred (means you don't have to pay) BUT you have to tell the creditor that it is state barred. It costs £2 to get your credit report from each of the major credit reference agencies. You do not need to pay any extra to get your credit score, this is a waste of money as it's not the same system banks use.

  • You may just want to do a credit check on your current address but by post not using the online service. Obviously you wouldn't be mentioning you previous address when they ask you how long you have lived your current address! Your new credit file will show if someone has already linked you to the old addresses, obviously not you! Still I wouldn't bother to much if you are able to obtain credit at your new address then that answers the previous question. If you are having problems at your new address then you maybe have already been linked to your previous address. I'm pretty sure CRA's cannot create that link themselves either, only you or a debt collecting agency or tracing agent could do that and if that was the case you would have already had a visit.

Best let sleeping dogs lie if I was you and there are no obvious probs at your current address, also all erronous data will drop off after 6 years anyway from date of default etc. Also they maybe changing the limitations act to be reduced from 6 years to 3 years in a Civil Law Reform Bill due out later in the year in!
  • I am not sure I am in the right area to ask, but here goes, can credit reference agencies just do checks on persons name and Date of Birth WITHOUT address?

Did you only look at one credit reference agency or all three? They don't all have the same information as bans use different ones.
