Linked addresses on experian credit report

Advice and help please. I have recently received my credit report from experian and upon looking through I can see I have 298 linked addresses. These addresses have been put on by companies I have no credit accounts with but with companies I have applied for credit with at some point. I lived at some of these addresses for a matter of weeks in between moving houses therefore I was not listed on an electoral roll etc. My question is how long will these remain on my credit file and can I get them removed because I dont have a credit account with them. Also does anybody have a draft letter I can send to experian. I also feel out of 298 linked addresses a lot of them are repeated.
As I understand it, please correct me if I am wrong, a linked address may be created when an account moves between addresses, such as when you move house, or when a lender checks your records at your previous address. The lenders that have listed this information on my credit report I have no credit account with.
Thanks for your help in advance
Gregg

If you lived at the address for only 2 days you still must declare it. Every time you moved and told anyone banks, credit card company etc, of your new address the link is then made, you can not unmake a link. many of the addresses may be the same address just a different format for example-
flat 23, 15 Westminster gardens may also appear as 15, flat 23, Westminster gardens, or 23/15 Westminster gardens and so on. Again there is nothing you can do about it. Just out of interest are these address in either Edinburgh or Glasgow?
Are there any companies on there that you haven't applied with? or do you have common surname? Patel, smith etc?0 -
hi I dont have a common surname and the addresses are not in edinburugh or glasgow. I have been told that they have to remove them after eight years. is this true?
also can this affect you getting credit or not?0 -

A linked address created by an application is recorded on your report, even if the application is refused or you don't take it up.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

unless there is anything negative at the address in your name I wouldn't worry about it. I look at credit files all day and often see many addresses that I've no idea how there linked to the customer, in most cases I just ignore them if there is no data at all there for the customer I am dealing with and it make no difference to the decision I make to grant credit or not.
They are not removed from your credit file, they just drop off, however often I will see a linked address from 10-15 years ago.0 -
Hi,
I have 4 unique addresses listed in my credit report as linked addresses by around 30 companies - banks, lenders, debt collectors, mail order, store cards. I have never lived at these addresses and every now and then one of these companies put a entry in my credit report for a Default when I don't even have an account with them.
From all the phone calls I have been making for the past 6 months, it looks like someone with the same name as me lived around 3 miles from my home and after he started to default on his payments, all the companies started to run a trace on his name and since I have the same name as him and lived close enough, these companies made a link from this person's address to mine.
Not only this is taking time and engery to clean up but also a lot of money as most of these debt collection agencies have an 0870 number which is very expensive to call. I am having to call each and everyone of these companies and provide them with a copy of my passport + driving license and copy of credit report for them to believe that I am not the individual they are looking for and in some cases they also want to see a rental agreement in 2003 to prove I was not at that address. Which, I don't have with me anymore.
Has anyone else had this experience? Any advise on this matter will be very useful.
Regards,
Bharat0 -
