Storing (and displaying) fruit - dish?

Options
We go through huge amounts of fruit every week but even although it gets used, there always seems to be one piece of fruit that ends up at the bottom of the bowl starting to rot and needless to say we don't see it until it's smelling and affecting the rest of the fruit.

I keep the bananas separate, on a hanger thing but I think I need a different type/ new fruit bowl.

I'd also like something decorative as it is to sit out on the centre of the breakfast bar ( that way the youngest is more likely to reach for an apple than a biscuit if it is in front of her).

So, I'm thinking something longish and shallow might be better than rounder and deeper iyswim? That way the fruit might air and get less squashed at the bottom? Does that sound better or am I just kidding myself? :D

I have a large space for it so want a large dish....any suggestions? I'm thinking a chrome 'bar' type of thing might be better than a solid bowl?

I have the 'chrome bar' style and find the fruit stays fresher.

Try not putting quite so much fruit in the bowl - perhaps one or two items of what you've got in at the moment, ie two apples (one green/one red), a tangerine, an orange, couple of peaches/nectarines, a sprig of grapes - using the ones that look 'most in need of using' first. Keep the main stock of it in the fridge (apart from bananas ;))
