Ema for student child when going Br??

Sorry if this is in the wrong place- didn't really want to mention Br in other forums.

My daughter starts college in September... at the moment my OH earns just over the threshold for her to get ema, but with Br looming, is there any way she would be eligible, as her bus fares to get to college mount to £20 weekly alone!

It is all based on 2008/2009 income.

We couldnt get it either as on paper we were rich last year... :-( It has been a struggle but we put her expenses on our SOA as she has no income, I feel this was a factor in us not getting a IPO. Bus fares, food at college, coursework books it mounts up.
EMA was supposed to encourage children to stay in further education but only the poorer families can get it.

Does the County Council provide any help for bus fares? I know some do, some don't and they're all different.

Ours dont, EMA is a means tested benefit for the family but takes nothing into account about other children and debt commitments. I would say though if your income has dropped this year to try and re-apply.

Some County Councils provide transport for 6th formers but subject to a contribution, locally thats £400 per year, ask your County Council Education Transport department

failing that what about a student bus pass?

Hi, I'm afraid the EMA rules are very strict and based soley on the previous financial years income of the parents/carer.
