Guarantees/Warranty's on comp wins?

Hi All,
In March I won a Sony C905 mobile 'phone from a competition.
Today when I went to use it, I couldn't hear anyone through the earpiece. I now can only use it on loudspeaker which is far from ideal.
I have Googled the model number and apparently it is a very common fault with this mobile.
My question is, where do I stand?
I have no receipt as it was a win but surely it should be guaranteed for a year?
Who do I contact? Sony or the comp organisers or the company who supplied the mobile?
Any help would be gratefully received as I now have a pretty useless mobile and I gave my old one away.

Contact Sony and give them an explanation, along with the IMEI number of the handset. They should be able to figure out that the warranty is still valid... I think.

Thanks, I'll call them on Monday.
This colour model was only released in March so at least they will know I can't have had it too long.
It's a £300 mobile but apparently it's a common fault.
Wish me luck.

PS Where so I find the IMEI number please?

Should be covered by manufacturers guarantee regardless of the fact it's a win. I have had a couple of problems with prizes and the manufacturers have always sorted it for me

i won a 3 in 1 kodak printer a few years ago, it work to print one picture then came up with a error code, so i rang kodak and explained it was a comeptititon win they sorted it out for me and i got a new printer from them
