Thinking of buying steamer set

Happy Camper - I thought it was great value at £19.99 and it had a 3 year guarantee. I was looking at ones by well known cookware manufacturers and they were easily twice the price.
Anyway, I was doing smoked haddock tonight with new potatoes & mint and peas. I did the potatoes in the bottom and the peas in the next one. I was thinking of wrapping the smoked haddock in foil and doing them in the third one but DS hates smoked haddock and I wondered if the smell would taint his spuds!! So I cooked that separately. But all went well and I like it!0 -
Just a tip, if you have room when you put the veg in the tiers you can actually put a couple of eggs in and they boil actually in the top layers of the steamer. Great for next days sandwiches or with the salad for teatime.
I'm a bit sceptical on foil touching food in the steamer and use greaseproof paper in the same way.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks for the tip McNeff. Will also think about the greaseproof paper. Not sure what you mean about the foil TBH though.0

Never occurred to me about boiling eggs in it!
Thanks for the tip!0 -
I bought an electric steamer for my sister as she doesn't have a cooker. She just discovered that she could hard boil eggs in it and was very pleased. She has missed boiled eggs.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I don't think anyone's mentioned the Universal Steamer. It's by far the most economical solution. I'd say you can get one for about £10 in Tesco, and elsewhere. The great thing is they fit any size pot, and they're great for using up an old pot you might have otherwise thrown out. The thing with steamers is the base pot wears out, not the steamer part, with a Universal Steamer you can replace the pot, and keep the steamer.
There's one for £10 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Horwood-Multi-Insert-Steamer-Glass/dp/B00140SJ5I/ref=pd_cp_kh_0 but I think they might be cheaper in the supermarkets or TKMaxx.0 -
I bought a 3 tier steamer for use on the hob from argos a few months ago - brilliant. It was the cheaper one but have not had a problem with it at all and i use it all the time0
