Greggs steak bakes..........own recipe?

Options
Been talking about these and we all like them at home , also at work we quite often buy them but I think we can do better HM, if not beat cost at least quality. So I am thinking that to make the 'steak in sauce' I would try this

Lean braising steak
Onions finely chopped
Oxo
red wine or guiness?
black pepper
chuck in slow cooker for a few hours then add some cornflour if needed to thicken sauce before wrapping in puff pastry
Is this all I would need or any ideas to add to the flavour and would the guiness be better than the wine?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

    Add some herbs.

Defo use the guiness instead of the wine. Although wine is nice it would create a flavour that would not taste like the steak bake.
